Suspect in court after leading deadly Indiana police chase that killed one officer

Benjamin Eads, 35, is charged with auto theft and evading police causing death. More charges are expected at his next court hearing set for Monday, December 17.

SCOTT COUNTY, Ind. (WHAS11) — The man charged in the police pursuit that resulted in the death of Indiana officer Ben Bertram appeared in court Friday, December 14.

Benjamin Eads, 35, is charged with auto theft and evading police causing death. More charges are expected at his next court hearing set for Monday, December 17.

Bertram died protecting the community he vowed to serve when his cruiser crashed into a tree during the chase late Wednesday night

"I want everyone to know the Scott County Prosecutor's Office, the Indiana State Police and the Scott County Sheriff's Department will not leave any stone unturned in this investigation," prosecutor Chris Owens said.

Owens offered his condolences to the Bertram's family, the Charlestown Police Department and police officers everywhere saying they "lost a damn good officer Wednesday night."

Eads is being held on a $100,000 cash bond.
