SEYMOUR, Ind. — Police arrested a southern Indiana woman Saturday after she scaled a bridge in Seymour.
Seymour Police Department officers were called to South Burkhart Boulevard on reports of a person who went over the guardrails, according to an SPD Facebook post.
Officers found 33-year-old Rachel Adams of Seymour, Ind. had climbed over the guardrails and walked along the edge of the bridge, continuing to the steepest point where she then scaled down a several foot drop onto a narrow ledge. At this point, she was no longer able to climb back up without serious risk of falling 40 feet.
The Seymour Fire Department used a fire ladder to get her down. Once safely on the ground, Adams was arrested for criminal trespassing.
The Seymour Police Department said the following to the general public in their Facebook post:
"Folks, please exercise caution and common sense when using our new pedestrian pathway over the bridge. The multiple layers of guardrails, fencing, and 'Do Not Cross Guardrail' signs are there for your safety and the safety of the first responders who are put at risk responding to situations such as this."
