LOUISVILLE, Ky. — An inmate died Wednesday shortly after they were taken to a southern Indiana jail.
Indiana State Police detectives are investigating after a 57-year-old woman arrived at the Ripley County Jail and died a short time later. The woman arrived at the facility about 3 p.m. on a warrant from another county.
According to a news release, she became unresponsive inside a jail cell. Staff and responding medical personnel rendered care to the woman.
She was taken to Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville where she was pronounced dead. Her name has not been released.
The investigation is ongoing. Foul play is not suspected, and toxicology and autopsy results are pending.
