FRANKFORT, Ky. — A longtime public servant who worked under former Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson and Governor Andy Beshear was laid to rest.
State and local leaders gathered Saturday at the Capitol Rotunda in Frankfort to remember the life of the Honorable J. Michael Brown.
Brown passed away on Jan. 12 after a short illness at the age of 73.
Beshear, current Mayor Craig Greenberg and LMPD Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel spoke at services discussing Brown’s impact on Louisville as well as the commonwealth.
“He invested so much time and love into that very special city,” Beshear said. “At a time when others were trying to say why aren’t we more like this town or that city. He just wanted Louisville to be its very best.”
Greenberg said Brown inspired trust and respect from the moment you met him.
“When you’re around J. Michael, you just sensed that this was a man of tremendous substance, dignity, intelligence and honor,” he said.
Brown was a paratrooper in the Vietnam War and Gov. Beshear said he was made an honorary general.
Brown was laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery in Louisville.
