Parents honor son killed in car crash with special bottle release

Jake Luxemburger would have turned 12 years old on Wednesday.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — It's been just over a year since the tragic crash that took Jake Luxemburger's life, and his family is honoring him on his 12th birthday.

On Wednesday, Kate and Trey Luxemburger celebrated Jake's birthday with a special bottle release at Butchertown Brewing.

"It's been a world wind," Trey, Jake's dad, said. "My hat goes off to my family and everybody around us, because I can stand up and save face all I want, but they're the real reason why I'm able to do so."

Jake was killed in 2023 in a car crash by a driver who was evading police in a pursuit.

The family started the Jake Luxemburger Foundation to keep his memory alive.

"We are here to do things Jake was the most passionate about," Kate, Jake's mom, said. "He was passionate about youth sports. He was passionate about the first responders. He was passionate about animal rescue. Those are his big things that he would do anything he could to help them."

Wednesday's special bottle included Jake's jersey number and #jakestrong.

The proceeds from the sales will go towards the family and the foundation.

Butchertown Brewing has raised money for the family in the past; in 2023 the brewery released a cookies and cream flavored stout that sold out within minutes of its release. All of the proceeds went to the family.

A grand jury indicted the suspect in the case, Tymetrius Walter, in November 2023.
