JCPS principal terminated after accusations of inappropriate behavior

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- It's rare for a principal in Jefferson County Public Schools to be fired.

So when word spread about Bill Anderson's contract being terminated at Western Middle School, it shocked parents.

'I was really surprised. I thought it was unfortunate he came across as a very compassionate person about the school and I was very disappointed,' Rhonda Mattingly, whose son goes to Western Middle, said.

'I was in shock. I just could not believe someone in his position could do these things,' Joann Dennis, granddaughter goes to Western said.

Anderson was removed from the school last month while being investigated and was fired a couple weeks ago.

The information was made public to us in a stack of documents released Thursday from Jefferson County Public Schools.

In the documents school staff and district employees say Anderson consistently used profanity around them, was condescending and disrespectful. He was described as a loose cannon and when talking about a suicidal student allegedly said 'let's buy her a box of razor blades.'

'I was not shocked. I asked my daughter why and she said he was cussing at students and I said 'well someone finally stood up and got him in trouble,'' Marti Sitz whose daughter goes to Western said.

Western is a school in transition. They were one of the worst performing schools in the state and had a high suspension rate.

Now they are a performing arts school and parents say good things are happening despite news of the principals termination.

'It already was not well known for being a great school and I think it's become a great school and I think people are missing out if they recognize that it's got a lot to offer,' Mattingly said.

Jefferson County Superintendent Dr. Donna Hargens issued a statement saying 'the behavior alleged and substantiated by this investigation is unacceptable and is not reflective of the core values of the Jefferson County Public School district.'

Steve St. Clair is the interim principal at Western. We could not reach Anderson for comment.
