LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – It was snow day number four for JCPS with the makeup for today is March 14.
While speaking with JCPS officials about whether we asked them about the issue of bus drivers calling in sick and the strain it puts on covering routes.
Dr. Michael Raisor said four times that bus routes have had to be canceled because drivers called in sick.
The issue is widespread, but JCPS said they have worked with schools to come up with contingency plans but acknowledges in flu season, it is an issue that comes up.
"Bus driving is a hard job and we appreciate it and we're working with our bus drivers' union the teamsters to come up with different plans and different ideas that can make driving more appeal and also more rewarding," Dr. Raisor said.
JCPS said one solution to help with bus driver shortages would be to increase ridership
on alternative school routes.
