LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Budget woes are leading to layoffs at Jefferson Community & Technical College.
JCTC announced that they are laying off 61 employees which is 14% of their current staff.
JCTC released a statement on Thursday, saying that since 2010, it has been among the majority of 2-year colleges in the nation, but seeing a drop in the enrollment.
They also said the situation is dire and that six years ago they had 15,000 students. Now, it's just over 10,000.
Facing the financial pressure, JCTC decided that it was necessary to reorganize and eliminate roughly 60 positions.
That goes into effect on June 30.
