Jefferson County jury finds Louisville man guilty of murdering his girlfriend in April 2022

Anthony Bedford was found guilty of murder, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, tampering with physical evidence, and more.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Jefferson County jury found a Louisville man guilty of murdering his girlfriend on Friday.

Anthony Bedford was found guilty of murder, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, tampering with physical evidence, and for being a persistent felony offender.

According to a news release from the Office of Commonwealth's Attorney, the jury found Bedford guilty after hearing witness testimony and evidence.

On April 21, 2022, Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) Fourth Division officers were dispatched on a reported shooting in the 1300 block of South Floyd Street in Old Louisville.

Upon arrival, police found Bedford in the apartment along with his girlfriend, Ranna Bowen, who was suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. She was declared dead on the scene.

During the scene investigation, officers said the firearm was recovered in a plastic tote, underneath other items in a different room from which the shooting occurred in an apparent attempt to conceal its recovery.

Bedford has several felony convictions including: third-degree arson (2003), convicted felon in possession of a Handgun (2011), and first-degree fleeing or evading police (2007) -- along with several felony drug convictions.

The jury recommends 35 years for murder, 10 years for possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, and five years for tampering with physical evidence (enhanced to 10 years via Persistent Felony Offender 1).

The case is scheduled for a sentencing hearing on Feb. 14, 2024 at 9:30 a.m.
