Judge: Man who fatally stabbed boy competent for trial

VERSAILLES, Ky. (AP) - A judge has ruled that an Indiana man is competent to stand trial in the fatal stabbing of a 6-year-old boy in central Kentucky.

Media reports say Woodford Circuit Judge Rob Johnson ruled Wednesday that Ronald Exantus of Indianapolis can go to trial on a murder charge in the death of Logan Tipton. Exantus also faces charges of burglary and assault for breaking into the boy's home in Versailles last December and injuring his father and siblings.

Officials say they haven't found a link connecting Exantus to the family or the town.

After a mental evaluation, doctors testified that Exantus heard voices and exhibited odd behaviors before the slaying, but that after treatment he understood the consequences he faces and can rationally assist in his defense.
