LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) — Kenneth Betts, the former officer accused in the Explorer Program sex abuse scandal, is back in jail on federal charges.
He was previously released on home incarceration and was ordered not to use a computer or the internet, however a judge revoked his bond after he violated the conditions of HIP by allegedly communicating with others via Snapchat and E-mail.
While none of the communication was inappropriate, there was communication through the web and it is still a violation of the bond conditions.
Betts’ mother testified that she was the one physically sending the emails, saying that she had both of his phones on her person at all times and did not understand that she was not allowed to send messages for him. Still, the judge revoked his bond.
U.S. Attorney Russell M. Coleman announced federal charges against Betts for his part in the Explorer Program's sex scandal on November 7.
“The interests of the United States remains protecting this community and it's young people,” Coleman said in response to Betts being placed back in jail.
