LOUISVILLE, Ky. — It is the first year the Kentuckiana Pride Festival has ever reached “sold-out” status.
Temperatures were hovering near 90 degrees, and it didn’t stop the hundreds participating in the parade which included local organizations, politicians and Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg.
“We had an absolutely amazing time at the Pride parade today! The energy was incredible, and the turnout was beyond fantastic. It was heartwarming to see so many people come together to celebrate love, diversity, and equality,” he said.
As the day progressed, many began flocking to the Big Four Lawn to visit vendors and watch local drag performers.

Pride Festivalgoers were also trying to find a prime spot to see new headliner Chappell Roan after Icona Pop pulled out due to illness.
Seeing the concerts and performances wasn’t the only reason why people are attending – it’s to celebrate diversity, inclusion and a sense of community.
Festival-goer Joey, who attended Pride with a nine-person crew, said they couldn’t recall when the event ever sold out.
"Last year, I was able to get my ticket at the door. I don't remember it being at max capacity. I think, especially her, she's a big factor. I also think times are changing and more and more people are feeling comfortable with coming out or being an ally,” they said.
Tahlia came all the way from Kalamazoo, Michigan. "I think that this is the time that we get to be proud and get to be who we are and love who we love. And not be scared of loving who we love and being who we are. And I just think Pride is the most incredible place to celebrate that," she said.
Kentuckiana Pride President Rodney Coffman told WHAS11 News said about 40,000 people celebrated the day in downtown Louisville.
