Kentucky Air Guard provide medical support at nursing home

The team includes four medics and a registered nurse. The crew reported for duty at the Rosedale Green Nursing Home in Covington, Ky.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Due to emergency staffing issues at a Kentucky nursing home, a small team of Kentucky Air Guard medical professionals are providing medical support.

The team includes four medics and a registered nurse. The crew reported for duty at the Rosedale Green Nursing Home in Covington and started work on Sunday, according to the Kentucky National Guard.

They are providing a variety of basic daily care activities for residents, including feeding, hygiene, extra help in physical requirements. The registered nurse is ensuring patients get their medications and administering insulin.

The team was previously at the Alternate Care Facility in Louisville and volunteered to provide support for the new assignment in Northern Kentucky.

“We have been able to integrate with the medical staff seamlessly and we are willing to do anything to help,” said Major Amy Riley, officer in charge of the medical team providing support.

The military medical crew will remain in place to allow the facility to develop solutions to their staffing.

The team will return to Louisville later on this week, Major Riley says.
