LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Lexington man has won the Kentucky Derby Festival’s Marathon for a third consecutive year.
Antonio Marchi won the Men’s Division clocking in at 2:26:11.
Marchi told festival organizers he loves coming back year after year to participate.
“I like how many of my friends are here. It’s motivation to continue staying tough and fit, socialize and stay healthy,” he said.
Caroline Gosser of Louisville took her chances and participated in the full Marathon for the first time. She came out on top in the Women’s Division after winning the miniMarathon in 2022 and taking third place in 2023’s mini.
“It’s so cool (running this race) being from Louisville. I heard a lot of people on the course yelling my name,” Gosser said. “The running community here is just awesome!”
About 10,000 runners had registered for the race, including Mayor Craig Greenberg who told WHAS11 he was happy to finish.
“I finished. That's all that matters. What a wonderful day all the runners it was great spirits, great crowds. Another wonderful Kentucky Derby Festival event. Onward to Derby,” he said. “Hopefully we had the same weather for 30 and oaks and Derby next year, and hope everyone gets a chance to take advantage of these amazing Derby festival events.”
The Kentucky Derby Festival and Churchill Downs teamed up to design the medals for the race which gives a nod to Kentucky Derby 150.
