LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Kentucky Derby Museum is launching a new interactive experience specifically tailored for younger museum-goers -- Ari's Horseshoe Adventure.
The museum said the goal of the exhibit is to get kids excited about horse racing.
Officials said the museum is filled with 150 years of information and lots of it is too complex for children to understand, so they hope this kid-friendly experience breaks those decades of history down into a form where kids can understand it and have fun learning too.
It's a clue finding experience where children answer Derby trivia questions hidden throughout the museum to try and locate Ari's missing horse shoe. The children will also find several coloring activities on the cards to keep them engaged.
The experience features 12 'Shoe Stops' within the museum. Each station will include a card related to that exhibit, in addition to colored pencils.
“It is our mission at Kentucky Derby Museum to engage and educate everyone about the Kentucky Derby! I am so excited to help create an avenue for our young visitors to have a learning experience that is tailored specifically for them," Emily Dippie, the museum's curator of education, said. "Museums are places of discovery and wonder, and that can be most clearly seen in the engagement of a child.”
Ari's Horse Shoe Adventure is free with general admission. Tickets for kids aged 5 to 12 are $12, and admission is free for children under 5.
