LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Kentucky Humane Society is helping prepare those interested in fostering.
The organization held an open house on Saturday where caregivers learned more about the program, including training and medical care for the animals.
KHS said it places roughly 3,000 fosters a year, which in turn, helps keep space available in the shelters for more animals.
They said their biggest need is for dog fosters.
“There’s always a pretty decent need for fosters. In general, our need is mostly for adult medium and large dogs. We have a lot of them – most times of the year, if not all year round. They are generally the ones that stay in the shelter the longest when waiting for adoption,” Ashley Able, foster program manager, said.
Foster placements can range from a week to a month.
KHS said they are willing to work around vacation schedules.
