FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentucky's Lieutenant Governor is recovering well after undergoing a double mastectomy earlier this month.
Last week, Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman said concerns were initially raised during a routine physical exam. Given her family's "significant" history of cancer, she said she made the decision to have the procedure.
On Tuesday, Coleman said she is doing well and her post-surgery reports have come back clean.
"While I am grateful for my amazing health-care heroes, and the relief I feel for having answers, please hear me when I say, if I had put this off, skipped appointments, or not taken it seriously, it is likely the news I'd be sharing eventually wouldn't be great," she said in a statement.
She thanked the Commonwealth for their continued prayers and well wishes saying they kept her and her family going "through a really tough time."
Coleman is urging Kentuckians to take their health seriously, urging everyone to start scheduling preventative exams that tend to be pushed off.
"Early detection and prevention were the difference makers for me," she said. "They are for you, too. Go schedule that appointment that's been in the back of your mind."
