LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Kentucky man won big in the lottery this November, thanks to his persistence.

Lottery officials said Billy Glenn bought his Kentucky Lottery Lucky for Life ticket at the Southland BP in Lexington.

Glenn told lottery officials that he's bought Lucky for Life tickets since they first went on sale on March 22, 2015.

“I’ve just been waiting for the dream," he said.

Glenn said he was at home when he finally checked his ticket.

“I looked at my ticket and I’m like, I’ve got the Lucky Ball (13) and 10 on one line,” he said.

While checking the other numbers, he realized he was one digit away from winning the first prize; his Lucky Ball number was 12.

“I was that close from getting it all,” he said.

Glenn showed up at the lottery headquarters on Nov. 22 and chose the cash option payout, so officials said he received a check for $280,804.32 after taxes.

“It’s been a blessing,” he said. “I’ve been stressing for the last six months.”

He plans to use the money to pay off his debt and do some things around his house lottery officials said.

Southland BP will receive $5,000 for selling the winning ticket.
