LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The holidays are here and Kentucky State Police along with Gov. Andy Beshear are asking the public to help combat hunger.
“Cram the Cruiser” is an annual drive where all 16 KSP posts collect essential food items during the holidays for those in need.
“The holiday season is a when we recommit to helping our neighbors and giving back to our community,” Gov. Beshear said in a statement. “I encourage those Kentuckians who can, to spread holiday cheer to those in need by participating in our ‘Cram the Cruiser’ food drive.”
How will it work?
KSP troopers will be stationed at various grocery and retail stores statewide and will take donations of non-perishable food items.
For example, these items can be boxed macaroni and cheese, canned meat, peanut butter, and canned soups.
KSP said you can also drop off donations at their post locations.
There will also be a final statewide push for donations on Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in each post area. KSP said all food items collected will stay in the communities where the contributions were made.
The food collection drive begins Nov. 21 through Dec. 4.
Last year, KSP collected 218,362 pounds of food.
