HENRY COUNTY, Ky. — A man is facing several serious charges after two people were killed in a crash over the weekend.

Kentucky State Police (KSP) said a preliminary investigation found a motorcycle was heading east on La Grange Road near Dawkins Lane just before 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 4. According to police, 21-year-old Trustin Hasenauer was driving west on La Grange Road when his pickup truck crossed the center line of the roadway and struck the motorcycle.

The motorcycle driver, 40-year-old Austin Doane of Smithfield, was pronounced dead at the scene, KSP said.

His passenger, 31-year-old Holly Hawkins of New Castle, was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital where she later died from her injuries.

According to an arrest citation, Hasenauer was seen by multiple witnesses fleeing the scene of the accident after the crash. When KSP called the owner of the truck, they said Hasenauer called saying he had been in a crash but was back at a home on Fox Run Road.

KSP found Hasenauer at the house and he told officers he was driving his boss's truck when he thought he crashed into a deer. Police also found clothing that matched the witness description of the suspect on the floor.

When asked, he told police he had only drank one beer. Troopers did a field sobriety test and a breathalyzer test, which came back with a result of .171.

Hasenauer, who is from Cheyenne, Wyoming, later told police he had a few drinks at a Mexican restaurant in New Castle prior to the crash. He said he fled the scene because "he was scared and his license was expired."

The 21-year-old has been charged with two counts of murder, operating a vehicle while under the influence (aggravating circumstance), leaving the scene of an accident and failing to render aid with death or serious injury, reckless driving, driving with an expired driver's license and failure to produce an insurance card.

KSP Post 5 continues to investigate the fatal crash, officials added.

Hasenauer is currently being held at the Oldham County Detention Center.
