Krispy Kreme on Bardstown Road damaged by arson undergoing partial demolition

Last May, a man was seen throwing a plastic bottle on the roof, igniting the fire that would damage the building.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Krispy Kreme on Bardstown Road, which has been closed since an arson fire damaged the building last May, is set to be at least partially demolished.

Florida-based Larson Design Group requested a building permit for "exploratory demo work" due to fire damage, according to a building permit filed with Louisville Metro Planning & Design Services.

An exploratory demolition, also known as a partial demotion, is the process of exposing or removing parts of a building to determine what needs to be repaired or replaced.

It is unclear when work on the building may begin. There are three other Krispy Kreme locations in Louisville and one in Jeffersonville, Ind.

According to the filing, the building is owned by Broadstone KKD Portfolio LLC, whose listed address is the same as Krispy Kreme's corporate headquarters in North Carolina.

On May 21, Louisville Fire Department responded to a fire at the Krispy Kreme on Bardstown Road.

Investigators believe the fire was caused by Michael Moore, 40, who was arrested immediately following the incident. He is charged with arson and wanton endangerment. Moore is currently being held on a $100,000 bond.

Police say witnesses saw Moore throw a plastic bottle on the roof which ignited the fire. There were employees inside at the time, but there were no injuries reported.
