BULLITT COUNTY, Ky. — One man is dead and another is in critical condition after a car crash in Bullitt County on Wednesday night.
Around 8 p.m., Kentucky State Police (KSP) said they received a call from Bullitt Co. dispatch asking for help with a three-vehicle crash near the 800 block of S. Bardstown, just south of Mt. Washington.
Police said their preliminary investigation revealed that a Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by 47-year-old Jason Durbin, was heading southbound on US 31E when, for unknown reasons, he crossed the center line and hit a Chevrolet Cavalier head-on that was going northbound. This resulted in a Ford F-250, also heading northbound, to hit the Cavalier.
Officers said the driver of the Chevrolet, 26-year-old Gary Bowman, was pronounced dead at the scene. Durbin was taken to UofL Hospital for life-threatening injuries. The driver and a passenger of the Ford pickup truck were not injured.
A portion of US31E was closed for several hours in order to allow troopers to reconstruct the crash.
KSP was assisted at the scene by the Mt. Washington Police Dept., Bullitt Co. Sheriff’s Office, Bullitt Co. EMS, and the Bullitt Co. Coroner’s Office.
The crash remains under investigation.
