LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Kentucky is honoring the state's first commercial distillery with a new historical marker on Whiskey Row in downtown Louisville.
The marker is placed near the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience on West Main Street.
The Heaven Hill President, COO and Mayor Greg Fischer helped christen it with a bourbon toast.
Williams came to Louisville from Wales around 1780.
A few years later, he built his distillery on the banks of the Ohio River, making whiskey from corn.
Monday's celebration coincides with the one year anniversary of the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience.
