KYTC working to repair copper wiring on street lights after it was stolen by thieves

A spokesperson for KYTC said the wire theft in Jefferson County and surrounding counties has cost the state more than $750,000.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is currently working to replace copper wiring on street lights after it was stolen by thieves.

A spokesperson for KYTC said the wire theft in Jefferson County, and seven other counties, has cost the state more than $750,000.

According to KYTC, fixing these lights takes a large amount of infrastructure work like digging trenches and rerouting equipment. They currently only have a three-person crew covering 15,000 lights.

KYTC and the Office of the Inspector General are offering a $5,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest of these wire thieves.
