'What are we going to do today': Liberty Green tenants rally for safer affordable housing

Wednesday, the tenants met with The Community Builders at a scheduled townhall.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Tenants at Louisville's Liberty Green Apartments demanded action on Wednesday to make their homes safer.

Those living in the mixed-income community said the building's majority owners, The Community Builders, failed to keep their end of an agreement to address maintenance requests within 90 days.

They said that agreement was made more than three months ago, and there's still a backlog of urgent and un-ignorable maintenance orders.

Wednesday, the tenants met with The Community Builders at a scheduled townhall.

"What are we going to do today is what I really want to know," one tenant said.

The Community Builders, however, asked for some grace.

"You have a professional team here that knows what they are doing," a company spokesperson said.

The Community Builders told WHAS11 News they have retained new professional property management with on-site staff and 24-hour maintenance.

They plan to meet with their tenants again Thursday morning.
