LA GRANGE, Ky. — A Louisville Metro Police officer who was critically injured in April during the mass shooting at Old National Bank will be honored by his hometown during an annual holiday celebration.
Editor's Note: Above video is from Nov. 5 when Wilt was honored at the 10th Annual Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Awards.
During La Grange's "Light Up" ceremony on Dec. 2, the community will recognize LMPD Officer Nickolas Wilt. The ceremony will be held at the intersection of Walnut and Main Street at 5:30 p.m..
Wilt was on his fourth shift with the department when he responded to the bank shooting. He ran toward the gunfire to rescue people inside the building when the gunman shot him in the head.
The rookie officer spent months in the hospital undergoing multiple surgeries before he was released in late July.
Doctors said then that Wilt is still recovering from a traumatic brain injury, however his long time prognosis is "very good."
