LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Since the recent shooting death of Jason Spencer in the Cherokee Triangle neighborhood, LMPD has stepped up their patrols in the area.

According to LMPD Chief Steve Conrad, “Some have suggested the Louisville Metro Police have handled this homicide differently than similar cases that occur in other neighborhoods in this community.”

Chief Conrad wrote a Facebook post aimed to dispel the idea that LMPD has treated this tragedy differently than other homicides in the area.

“That is simply not true. As a matter of fact, over the past 12 months, almost $1.8 million has been dedicated to overtime patrols in the 1st, 2nd, and 4th divisions where most of the homicides occur,” Chief Conrad wrote.

Last week, LMPD told WHAS11 they would increase their patrols in the area for one to two weeks after the incident, and a peace walk was held in the area days after the shooting.

“It is not unusual for police commanders to create action plans. It is not unusual for patrols to be increased in the wake of violence. It is not unusual for police to hold peace walks, in fact, I conduct a walk weekly often in an area that has recently seen violence,” Chief Conrad wrote.

He went on to reassure the community that LMPD is dedicated to keeping Louisville safe and asked community members to be vigilant in reporting crime and coming forward with information.
