Man dies after police shooting off Dixie Highway, LMPD says

LMPD said the incident happened in the 4700 block of Crawford Avenue.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Metro Police (LMPD) is investigating a critical incident that involved officers near Dixie Highway late Friday night.

LMPD said officers were called to the 4700 block of Crawford Avenue around 11 p.m.

Officers including Ofc. Christine Silk, Ofc. Noah Sheets and Ofc. Bailey Siegrist reported to the scene. Authorities say they found a man holding a knife.

Police said the man came towards the officers while holding the knife. Officers tried to use non-lethal force against him but authorities said it didn't stop the man.

Silk, Sheets and Siegrist discharged their weapons, striking the man multiple times according to investigators.

LMPD said the man was still holding the knife, making it difficult for officers to render aid.

They were eventually able to render aid, and police said Louisville Metro EMS transported the man to the hospital where he died two days later.

The coroner's office identified the man as 43-year-old Nicholas Pierce.
