LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Police have made an arrest hours after an elderly woman was shot and killed by her own son Monday.
Police say 38-year-old Gavin Perkins was arrested and charged with murder and domestic violence in the death of his mother, Ruth Perkins.
Officers responded to the 10500 block of Southern Meadows drive just before 3 p.m.
Margie Miller says she knows the victim, even talking to her recently about the birth of the fifth grandchild.
"God love her. I'm just so sorry. She just has a brand new grandbaby a couple weeks ago," Miller told WHAS11.
Police have not said what led up to the shooting but they consider it an isolated case.
Despite hearing that, other neighbors they will be more on guard.
Jeffrey McIntosh first moved into the east end neighborhood 20 years ago. He considers it a quiet area for the most part, until recently. "I'll tell you what. In the past few years I've seen a lot of weird stuff," he said.
It will be a few restless nights for Miller, left with her own questions as police continue their investigation.
“I just can’t believe it. She was a beautiful person,” she said.
