LMPD: Suspect in woman's fatal shooting Friday morning flees officers, shoots himself

The relationship between the man and woman is unknown at this time.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A homicide suspect fatally shot himself in the St. Denis neighborhood Friday afternoon, according to the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD).

LMPD's Fugitive Unit and SWAT was investigating a lead on a possible suspect who fatally shot a woman earlier Friday morning in the 3400 block of Kramers Lane, a spokesperson said.

Detectives said he search led them to a mobile home park in the St. Denis neighborhood.

When officers got there, police said the suspect ran from them.

Investigators said the suspect shot his weapon during the chase. LMPD said officers did not fire their weapons.

Authorities said they credit the tips from the community and good work with helping them track down the suspect.

"They develop intel by working cases as they come," Maj. Russell Miller said. "Obviously we got some good intel to get on this today, to get the suspect in the homicide from this morning in custody. The suspect decided he didn't want to go into custody, and take his own life."

Miller said he was the only suspect in Friday morning's homicide.
