LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The Louisville Metro Police Department is looking to hire up to 150 officers, and it’s turning to some familiar faces to fill the positions.

Leaders are asking any officer who has retired within the last seven years to consider coming back to the force.

LMPD launched this initiative for the first time back in September and hired back 17 officers.

The department said this method helps cut down on training, saves money, and brings invaluable experience and passion back to the force.

“So often officers will leave, and they’ll get out in the real world and realize this is really who they are. They love serving their community. They love doing great things. They love helping people, and they want to come back into it. So, it’s really for both the police department and the officer,” Lt. Col. Robert Schroeder, Asst. Police Chief, said.

Officers who come back will have a lot of benefits compared to those starting new. They'll be treated as if they have five years on the force for both vacations and salary.
