LMPD: 1 person dead, another injured after crash near PRP on New Years Day

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Metro Police (LMPD) is investigating a deadly crash that happened early on New Years Day near the Pleasure Ridge Park neighborhood. 

According to LMPD's Third Division, a car was travelling northbound on the Greenbelt Highway, near Riverport Drive, at a high rate of speed around 1:30 a.m. The driver somehow lost control of the vehicle and went down into an embankment.

Police said the passenger of the vehicle was ejected. EMS arrived on scene and pronounce the person dead. Their identity has not been released at this time.

The woman driving the vehicle was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital and she is expected to survive her injuries. 

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, according to LMPD.

The department's Traffic Unit is handling the investigation.
