LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A man and woman found dead inside a Louisville motel room likely overdosed, according to police.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A man and woman found dead inside a Louisville motel room likely overdosed, according to police.

Officers with the Louisville Metro Police Department responded to Red Roof Inn off Newburgh Rd. and Bishop Ln. around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday after the two bodies were found.

Red Roof Inn responded to the incident in a statement saying, "This has become a police matter and Red Roof is fully cooperating with local authorities. Red Roof does not comment on ongoing police investigation.”

The deceased man and woman are the latest casualties of the drug epidemic inundating the Louisville Metro area. Metro EMS has responded to 320 overdoses in the past three weekends alone and there are an average 32 overdose runs every day. The agency did not say how many of the overdoses resulted in fatalities.

Police have not identified the man and woman found deceased inside their hotel room. The Jefferson County Coroner is expected to release their names and official causes of death later this week.
