LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Newly released body camera footage shows the moments during and after an officer is shot in the line of duty. Police said one year later, the shooter is still at large.
Officer Brad Shouse was called to the Bashford Manor neighborhood on a report of a suspicious person in June of 2017.
Police said the officer found a man who matched the suspect description and tried to talk to him but that man ran and then turned and shot at Shouse, striking his foot.
"There are lasting effects to being shot in the line of duty but he has been able to return to work,” LMPD Public Integrity Unit Detective Aaron Crowell said.
In the year since the shooting, police have talked to persons of interest, including Dimitri Harris, who was questioned but never arrested. They have not made any arrests in the case.
Crowell said, "We have a responsibility to any victim but especially when it’s one of our own we feel that even more deeply. But this is a person, if he's willing to shoot a police officer, for nothing more than trying to stop him to see what he's up to, he obviously poses a substantial threat to any member in the community."
Now, police said they're taking their search public and asking those at home to help them find the man involved.
"We won’t stop until this is solved. Whoever this is will be held accountable at some point,” Crowell said.
