LOUISVILLE, Ky. — UPDATE: LMPD said Kahyla Bailey has been found and returned home safely as of Saturday morning.
Officials said she was located and found to be "unharmed and in good condition."
Louisville Metro Police is searching for Kahlya Bailey, 10, who they said has been missing since late Thursday afternoon.
"Kahlya is 10 years old. Kahlya is apparently out on the street by herself. That means Kahlya is in danger," Deputy Chief Paul Humphrey said.
Bailey was missing from home in the 2100 block of St. Louis Avenue, according to police. That's in the Park Hill neighborhood.
Police said she was last seen in the Shelby Park area on Thursday.
She is approximately 5'0 tall and weighs about 100 pounds.
Bailey has brown eyes and brown hair. She was last seen holding a teddy bear and carrying a blue backpack. She was last wearing a dark-colored jacket, multi-colored leggings and white tennis shoes.
In a social media post, LMPD said surveillance video shows Bailey heading northbound in the alley behind White Owl Liquors on Dixie Highway at 4:35 p.m.
As of Friday, officials said Bailey is still missing.
During an afternoon press conference, police said they are aware that Bailey has gone missing other times previously, but it's the least of their worries right now.
"The concern is her age and being alone. A 10-year-old is not safe to be alone on the street, especially for this amount of time," Humphrey said.
Neighbors said Bailey is a sweet girl who likes to play with other kids.
Latanya Carradine said other neighbors, the neighborhood church, and LMPD all searched the area Thursday evening.
"We looked in the alleys, the garbage cans, all that," she said. "We didn't go in the house until after one o'clock this morning looking for this baby. We all just got to pull together and bring this baby back home."
Levi said she always keeps a close eye on her grandchildren, but now it's more pressing.
"It's kind of traumatize a little bit to other kids you know because you see how it's clear out here now. A nice day like this, kids would be out," Levi said.
Humphrey said Bailey wasn't abducted and acknowledges she has gone missing other times before. However, he didn't want to go into details.
Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to call 911 immediately.
