LMPD: Driver charged with murder, DUI after fatal crash near Buechel

LMPD said the crash also caused residents in the area of Breckenridge Lane and Redding Road to lose power temporarily.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Metro Police have arrested a driver after a fatal crash near Buechel on Sunday.

LMPD's Sixth Division responded to Breckenridge Lane and Redding Road following reports of the crash around 5:13 p.m. Sunday. Officers found two people inside a vehicle with serious injuries.

One person was pronounced dead at the hospital while the driver reportedly had serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

On Monday, authorities said the driver, 45-year-old Wimpy Myers II, was arrested at the hospital and charged with murder, first-degree criminal mischief, and driving under the influence.

According to LMPD’s Traffic Unit’s preliminary investigation, they believe the vehicle was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed and lost control, crossed over into southbound lanes, striking a utility pole and a tree.

LMPD said the crash caused some in the area to lose power.

LG&E crews are working to restore it and told police it may not be until the morning before power is fully restored.

The intersection of Breckenridge and Redding Road will remain closed as police continue their investigation.
