LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Metro Police took steps to connect with the community on Tuesday in an effort to reduce gun violence.
LMPD's Second Division held a "Stop Gun Violence" event at the Kroger on 28th and Broadway in the Parkland neighborhood.
Command staff and officers met with neighbors to talk about their observations, concerns and ideas about how to improve safety.
It was also an opportunity for police to connect with kids in the neighborhood.
"When you start early with the kids at a young age, you can help them develop because you can have those communications all through as they grow up," Maj. Russell Miller said. "We get into the schools a lot with some of our school programs that some of our officers go and they teach in the schools. They teach about the violence. They teach about what to do."
The department plans to have similar events at other locations throughout the summer.
