Louisville, southern Indiana officers working security at Republican National Convention

Local officers will join a contingency from 63 departments in 24 states and Washington D.C. along with 44 Wisconsin agencies.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Republican National Convention begins Monday in Milwaukee and multiple states will be involved in providing security, including law enforcement from Kentucky and southern Indiana.

Louisville Metro Police confirmed with WHAS11 News on Sunday that a contingent of 14 officers will be heading to the convention for support. Kentucky State Police also said they will have personnel on hand.

Milwaukee police is leading the security and other agencies from across the country will be there to assist.

LMPD joins a contingency from 63 departments in 24 states and Washington D.C. along with 44 Wisconsin agencies.

Indiana State Police - Sellersburg is also sending officers to provide security at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

The cost to bring the departments in will be covered by a grant from the Department of Justice.

Security is expected to be tight, but officials said there will no changes to the plan.
