LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) — Highland Baptist Church will host a "Soul Supper" Thursday, Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. for the local LGBT community and allies.
Reverend Maurice Blanchard said the meal is for LGBT community members who cannot return home because they are not accepted by family members.
"We provide a safe space for them to come be loved, affirmed, feel safe," Blanchard said.
While some Christian churches have had tumultuous relationships with the LGBT community, Blanchard said Highland Baptist has embraced community members.
"I'm just excited...with all the bad news that's going on, we have some good news," Blanchard said.
The free meal will include Thanksgiving favorites. To RSVP for the supper, or to donate food, email perry@hbclouisville.org.
