Louisville community members comment on development plan for Floyds Fork

Some people think these regulations don't do enough to protect wildlife, while developers feel they are being boxed in.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Members of the community were invited to the planning commission's meeting on Thursday to give their comments on the development plan for Floyds Fork.

The commission is working on a list of regulations for developers who want to buy land in Floyds Fork. The area runs across eastern Jefferson County to Bullitt County.

Some of the regulations include lighting limitations, required planting of native species and any apartment complexes with 10 or more units must have 30% open green space.

Some people think these regulations don't do enough to protect wildlife, while developers feel they are being boxed in.

"Because of rules and regulations, we are now down to 50 homes," Land Acquisitioner Adam Weever said. "Lets say this make take lots costs from $40,000 to $75,000, and unfortunately, we have to pass that cost right to the consumer."

But Jeff Frank from Fischerville, Kentucky, said they cannot go back once they put up a subdivision.

"It is gone, we will never restore that natural habitat," he said.
