Louisville community members testify in favor of speed cameras

Right now, Kentucky does not allow these kinds of cameras.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — People with Vision Zero and Louisville's Metro Council were in Frankfort on Tuesday testifying on the merits of speed detection cameras.

Right now, Kentucky does not allow these kinds of cameras.

Vision Zero is the Metro's initiative to prevent traffic deaths.

Councilmember Dan Seum Jr. represents the Fairdale area in Louisville, and he said when he first got elected, the complaint he heard the most was about speeding and enforcement.

So while in Frankfort, he advocated for red light and speed cameras.

"In a 35 mile an hour zone on Mount Holly Road, they were clocked at 94 an hour," Seum said. "Now keep in mind, this road has no sidewalks, and the mailboxes are out on the street."

Vision Zero has asked Louisvillians to answer survey questions on speeding in the city. It is available until the end of September.

Anyone who wishes to participate in the city-wide survey can do so here.
