LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Metro EMS is mourning the "unexpected" death of a longtime paramedic.
Don Scheer suffered a massive stroke on Tuesday which caused a brain injury that he ultimately couldn't recover from, according to a GoFundMe. He died the following day.
LMEMS confirmed the news on X, formerly known as Twitter, and said Scheer was a tenured paramedic who dedicated "decades of his life to the residents of Louisville."
He spent 13 years serving in the Mt. Washington Fire Department and the last 17 years at LMEMS.
Scheer had three children. He was a part of Greater Bullitt County Youth Football League (GBYFB) Maryville Patriots Youth Football & Cheer League for 10 years, where his daughter, Mikayla, still cheers and is a staff member for the league.
"His last act of service was to donate his organs so that others could live their lives," LMEMS posted. "Please keep Don’s family, friends and colleagues in your prayers and support them today and in the coming difficult days."
LMEMS said they will share details on arrangements once they are finalized.
If you would like to help the family with costs, a GoFundMe has been set up.
