Several Louisville-area firefighters deploy to Georgia ahead of Hurricane Milton

A specialized team made up of 17 members and resources from local fire departments are being sent to South Georgia.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Monday morning, several Louisville-area firefighters are being deployed to South Georgia to help in disaster aid as Hurricane Milton approaches.

The Jefferson County Special Operations and Command Team is made up of 17 members and resources from various local fire departments, including Anchorage Middletown Fire & EMS, Fern Creek, Okolona and PRP.

The specialized team will depart from Anchorage Middletown Fire & EMS (AMFEMS) headquarters at approximately 8 a.m. on Monday, according to an AMFEMS news release.

The team's mission is to provide crucial assistance and enhance preparedness as the storm nears Florida's borders. Some are predicting the hurricane will make landfall on Wednesday this week.

"We are committed to safeguarding lives and providing support where it is needed most," said Special Teams Chief Adam Jones. "Our highly trained personnel are ready to face the challenges that come with natural disasters and assist our fellow communities.
