1 person hurt in Louisville high rise apartment fire

Over 40 firefighters responded to the incident Tuesday morning.

The York Towers high rise apartments caught fire in downtown Louisville Tuesday, Oct. 8. One person was injured.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — One person was hurt Tuesday morning when a downtown Louisville high rise apartment building caught fire.

A call came in at 9:46 a.m. for a fire at the York Towers apartments on York Street. Louisville Fire crews arrived on-scene within three minutes.

LFD Chief Brian O'Neill said the entire building was evacuated. He said it's important to heed the alarm if you live in a similar structure.

"When you hear the alarm go off, that means get out," he said.

Chief O'Neill said the fire was on the 5th floor. Over 40 firefighters responded to the incident and knocked down the fire within 15 minutes.

"They got to work right away and cleared people out," he said. "We had multiple rescues."

One person was injured and was taken to the hospital. Their condition is not known.
