'It's a rewarding career' | New recruits join Louisville Metro Corrections staff

The new officers were honored during a graduation ceremony on Friday and thanked by Mayor Craig Greenberg for joining public service.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Metro Corrections welcomed seven new officers to its roster following a Friday graduation ceremony.

The jail is still facing staffing shortages, but director Jerry Collins said hiring the right people to work with persons housed at the jail is a top priority.

Officer Kevin Alimbrand was among the new graduates and said while the job may be challenging, it’s also rewarding.

“To be a corrections officer, a lot of it takes a special person. You’re dealing with the same group of people, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It takes a special person to be able to do it,” he explained. “I think it’s a rewarding career. You’ve helped somebody reunite in the community and become a productive set of citizens.”

Mayor Craig Greenberg also attended the ceremony and thanked the new officers for choosing a path of public service.
