Family seeks justice in hit-and-run; LMPD releases photos of suspected vehicle

LMPD said Jacob Doherty was walking on Baxter and Morton Avenue when a silver or tan Nissan Rogue or Murano hit him.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Metro Police are asking for the public's help identifying the driver accused of being involved in a hit-and-run last week.

Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) said a person was walking on Baxter and Morton Avenue when a silver or tan Nissan Rogue or Murano hit them. Police said the vehicle is possibly stolen and has a large dent on the driver's door. The year of the vehicle is possibly between the years 2008-2014.

LMPD suspects the vehicle will have fresh damage from this hit-and-run.

Jacob Doherty was leaving a work Christmas party at Flanagan Ale House around 1 a.m. Saturday when he was hit.

"Just to see him laying there...bloody mess but he was there," Aprel Doherty, Jacob's mother, said.

It put Jacob in the hospital with a head injury and hairline fracture. His family said he was thrown in the air, landing hard on the roadway.

His parents said it's a miracle he is still here just in time for the holidays. They said his recovery is remarkable and going well.

They're offering a $5,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of the suspect.

She hopes that person turns themselves in, and said the love and support shown to Jacob is overwhelming.

"It's unbelievable; we're so grateful for the angels around him, the eyewitnesses that ran to his aid and put towels under his head and the police officers that were immediately on scene," Aprel said.

Anyone with any information regarding this incident can call LMPD's anonymous tip line at (502) 574-LMPD.
