LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Firefighters have put out a large fire that injured one person in Louisville's Newburg neighborhood.
MetroSafe said it received a report of a structure fire in the 6300 block of Preston Highway Wednesday afternoon.
Okolona Fire Deputy Chief Kenny Amback said the call came in around 4 p.m. from the American Transmission Shop.
According to the chief, one employee of the shop suffered minor burns and was taken to the hospital.
While firefighters were there, the roof collapsed, so the building is a total loss.
One witness told WHAS11 News it didn't take long for the fire to get out of control.
"When I came out the door I saw a lot of smoke coming out of the building and we kept looking at it look at it in the next few minutes the fire was shooting out the ceiling," they said. "I didn't smell a thing I heard a lot of blowing up cars blowing up inside the building."
About 40 firefighters from Fern Creek, Okolona, Louisville and Jeffersontown Fire responded to the scene.
Officials said it took fire crews roughly 30 minutes to get control of the blaze.
The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.
A large plume of smoke from the fire could be seen in the area.
