LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Months after scoring its first nomination, the Louisville Orchestra has won its first Grammy in the ensemble’s 87-year history.
The Orchestra was nominated for Best Classical Instrumental Solo for the American Project alongside world-renowned pianist Yuja Wang and conductor Teddy Abrams.
WHAS11 spoke to Abrams days before leaving for the Grammy Awards and shared his excitement about the Orchestra nominated.
“I mean I forget even the statistic but it’s like tens of thousands of albums that are put out to the public every single day. It’s an insane amount of music,” Abrams said. “And when you think about music, of tracks, of album that are all competing for this chance to be just one of four or five…that is a very small funnel of music that makes the cut.”
Abrams accepted the award on behalf of The Louisville Orchestra and Yuja Wang.
The Orchestra said they were "incredibly honored" and "overjoyed" for the win.
"This is not only a win for the LO - it's a win for the entire Louisville community. We couldn't do what we do without YOUR support. Thank you so much to our donors, subscribers, patrons, and fans for making our award-winning work possible."
