LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Neighbors in Clifton hope a new petition presented to Metro Council Thursday will permanently keep Givaudan from rebuilding in their community.
The plant's CEO already announced at a community meeting on Monday they were looking at other locations to move the plant.
However, organizers for the petition said they don't want the plant to have any opportunity of reopening in their neighborhood.
"It's very unlikely they will be able to be insured near a residential neighborhood now, but we want to eliminate that possibility entirely," petition organizer Abigail Schweizer said. "We want to make sure that there is no chance of it happening. And we want to make a statement that Louisville will not accept this happening to our residents.
On Friday, Givaudan plans to continue meeting with residents in a third planned open house.
They're doing insurance assessments, sharing mental health resources and handing out gift cards.
Friday's session is from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at United Crescent Hill Ministries. The final one scheduled is Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.
If you attend, you're asked to bring your ID and proof of a Clifton address.
