LMPD searching for driver who crashed their car into Highlands apartment complex

A woman was detained and questioned after witnesses said she fled from the scene of the accident.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) is investigating after a driver crashed their vehicle into an apartment complex in the Highlands late Monday night.

Authorities said the crash happened around 10:15 p.m. in the 1100 block of East Broadway. WHAS11 was at the scene Tuesday morning, where the car could still be seen stuck in the Highland Station apartment complex.

Police said the car caused "significant damage" to the building.

As officers approached the vehicle, they noticed it was empty and the driver had fled the scene. LMPD's Fifth Division officers began canvassing the area and questioned witnesses who said they saw the driver walking nearby.

Officers were able to locate a woman and detain her for questioning. The woman was cited for operating a vehicle on a suspended or revoked license, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to produce an insurance card.

LMPD said their investigation remains ongoing.

According to a department spokesperson, a Louisville Metro Government Building inspector was called to the scene to inspect the damage done to the building.
